Christmas Holidays!

In the holidays I'm going to Wanaka in the South Island with all my cousins. We are going to spend Christmas there. On boxing day in the afternoon my family is going to fly to America. I'm really excited because I'm going to see all my friends who I haven't seen in a year. For my dads birthday we are going to go on a cruise to Mexico with some close friends. The cruise is called the Carnival Cruise and there are heaps of fun activities like going to the pool and playing mini golf. Another thing I might do in America is go to Disney World. I can't wait for the holidays!!!

My term 4 highlights!

My six highlights that I did in my journal were learning about space, decorating the classroom with Christmas ornaments, year 7 retreat, tech (I'm in movie making), Athletics because I went to the Inter zones and getting my speech done and over with.

Next year!!!!! (year 8)

Next year i will be a YEAR 8 and im soooo excited! I am looking forward to camp the most and one of my goals is to be a house captain. Something that I want to achieve is getting my merit and excellence badge. At camp i want to do all the activities. This time next year I will be prapering to go to college and leave St. Bens and that will be really sad. I will try to make the most of my last year at this school!

My Speech???

My speech went pretty bad.......I think. I did it on Gabby Douglas. I talked too fast and I looked at my cue cards the whole time but I'm just glad it's over. I went 3rd after veronica and Imogen. I wanted to be one of the first people cause then I could get it over with. I actually tried a bit but I don't want to go to the finals. which I wont.

Hunger games!!

A book that I have read recently is the Hunger Games Catching Fire. It was AMAZING!!! One of the best books I have ever read. Once I started reading it I could not put it down. I liked it a lot because it has a lot of things you don't expect and it had a lot of cool survival things. My favourite character was Finnick Odair because he is really helpful but nothing like you would expect. I really like all the Characters though. I really suggest you should read this book.

SPEECH!!!

I am sooo nervous for the speech competition! I am really bad at writing speeches and even worse at performing them. I'm not very confident or prepared but I have to do it. I think it is unfair how they for everyone to write and present a speech! I will try to do well in my speech but I do NOT want to go to the finals. (I really hope I finish writing it on time!!!)

Space!!!

What have I found interesting learning about Space???
The most interesting thing I have learned about space is about the seasons because it is really confusing but really interesting at the same time! All the angels that the Earth is on is really cool.

What I did in the HOLIDAYS!!!

In the holidays I went to Australia for 4 days! Everyday it was 30 degrees, so hot! The most fun thing I did there was go to Luna Park but I also really enjoyed Manly beach too. Luna Park is a big amusement park with lots really cool rides. We had to walk everywhere, I walked across the Sydney harbour bridge. The only time we didn't walk somewhere was when I was taking the ferry to Manly beach.

Awesome Production!!!!

I think the production went really well. My favourite part was by far the chair dance. It looked awesome and was really fun at the same time and my favourite part of the song was when we flew across the stage. The part that needed to be different was the flashback scene... the gap needed to be shorter between the apron scene and the flashback scene. My favourite dance to watch was tainted love because almost everything was in time. 

PRODUCTION (stuff)

I'm so excited for the production!!! I'm most excited for watching it at the end and being in two of the dances. My Mum, Dad, Tyler, Daniel and my Grandma are coming to watch on Wednesday night. I think I will arrive at six both nights. I'm also really excited to be in the chair dance because we get to slide around on spinning chairs.

Elections!!!

What did I learn about elections???
I learnt that a general election is held every 3 years and that the candidate who wins the highest number of votes in each electorate becomes an MP (member of parliament). I also learned that New Zealand is divide into 70 geographical areas called electorates and 7 of the electorates are Māori electorates 

Reading challenges!!!

Every term we get a list of reading challenges. These are the challenges we got this term... 10 book challenge, 20 book challenge, random challenge, series challenge, classic challenge, space challenge and family challenge. I have completed the random challenge. I am aiming to complete the 20 book challenge and the 10 book challenge. I have nearly completed the series challenge i just have to read 1 more book to get it.

GYMNASTICS!!!

My favourite sport is gymnastics. I like it because it has a lot of benefits like strength and skill. I think my favourite thing about gym is all the friends I have there and the coaches. Another good thing about it is that it is a really good thing to do when you have nothing on.

PRODUCTION!!!!!

We have been mainly focusing on the production because it is THIS TERM!!! I have memorized ALL the lines I have! (which is 3) :) I am in Two dances- The Cantina Dance and Take a chance on me. I like the dance to Take a chance on me because it is on spinning chairs. My costume for the dance is FINISHED. YAY! I think I'm ready for the production but I'm not so sure about other people???  

A song that is meaningful to me is radioactive. It is one of my favourite songs because it has good lyrics. The song is about  anxiety and depression and then becoming self-empowered and rising above that. Radioactive is sung by Imagine Dragons.

ART!!!!!

Over the past few weeks we have been doing a lot of art. I'm not someone who dreads bout I don't absolutely love it... I like it. We have done about 3-4 pieces of art work uses similar materials such as paint, dye, sharpie, black ink, and pencils. One thing that I'm good at is drawing but when ever I try to paint it or colour it in some way it seems to look worse so I'm not very good at doing that.

As I said before I'm not very good at it so this is the best piece I could find...

EGYPT!!!!!

What have I learned???
When we first started learning about Ancient Egypt we had to create a mind map to show how much we know and now that the topic is nearly over we have to add to our mind map the things we learned. Before, my mind map was practically empty and now that I've added to it there is barely any room to write any more. I have learned lots!

 What activities did I learn the most from???
I learned the most from the power point presentations because it had a lot of good information and the game at the end of them really helped you remember the key things. Building Ancient Egypt also helped because by building it we had to get more detailed information to learn what it looked like.

What activity did I enjoy the most???
I enjoyed building Deir El Medina the most because it was on Minecraft and it was a fun activity to do with a group.

GYMNASTICS!!!!!

Every Thursday we walk down to Nairnville to do a variety of activities. The past couple of weeks we have been focusing on gymnastics. The things that are normally set up are the air track, a small metal bar, various kinds of climbing courses, a beam or two, rings, a floor and sometimes a trampoline. my favourite part of the session is doing tumbles on the air track.

Book groups!!!!

This term we have been doing this thing called book groups. Book groups is where you get put in a group of 5 or 6 people and the teacher assigns you a book to read. The groups meet twice a week and decide which chapter to read to. The teacher comes around to listen to the conversation and if it is good enough your aloud to bring chippies and lollies and crackers to school to eat during the meeting. The group I'm in is reading the book hatchet. So far its a really good book and really interesting. I think our group has been having good conversations and only a few times we've go off topic. I think discussing the book and asking questions is interesting because you get to see the book from other peoples point of view.

Green eggs and ham!!!!

When I was 6 or 7 I loved to read the book Green Eggs and Ham by Dr Suess. This book is about a character named Sam who tries to convince another person to eat green eggs and ham. The other character  does not want to eat them so Sam keeps trying to get him to eat them and after a while  he finally says fine I will try them. He ends up liking them a lot. I like this book because it rhymes and I like how Sam keeps trying to get the other person in the book to eat green eggs and ham.

HOLIDAYS

In the holidays we got our very first trampoline!!! I had wanted one for a really long time. I LOVE trampolines. We set up the trampoline on Saturday an d it took about 4 hours to set up. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. The trampoline we have is a jumpflex trampoline and it is 12 feet big. It is a really cool neon green colour and it came with an attachable mini basketball hoop and a ladder. I think I will go on it every day I can - rain or shine. In the holidays we also saw the Lego movie. I wasn't really looking forward to seeing it because I thought it was for boys but it actually was really good!

Mission Fair!!!

Last week was the mission fair. The mission fair is where the year 6, 7 and 8's form groups and sell stuff or do other fun things to raise money for Solomon islands. I was in a group with Siena, Mercedes, Abby, Millie, Grace, Caitlin, Sharon, Katherine and of course me. We sold a variety of stuff like sherbet, jelly, popcorn, bracelets and we also did hairspray and  face paint. something that I would do differently would be to have more people in the group that could make bracelets because I had to make all of them. the whole school raised over $1900 dollars which is $400 more dollars than last year so congratulations!

What I enjoy doing at home

Recently I visited America and one of my friends there introduced me to something called a rainbow loom. Its a plastic machine that you place rubber bands on and then get a hook and loom it. After you loom it you pull it off and it makes a bracelet. I really enjoy making bracelets whenever I have some spare time. There is only one problem with a rainbow loom, the more bracelets you make the more rubber bands you have to buy! I like the rainbow loom because its something fun to do when your bored and the bracelets look really cool. What is your favourite hobby to do at home?

Statistics

In the past couple of weeks we have been learning statistics. At the beginning of the year we had a statistics test and then today we had another one to see if we had improved. I think I did improve. I learnt how to use a protractor to draw in the angles on a pie graph. I also don't think I will be forgetting how to work out the mean, median, mode and range for a while to. I think I still need to work on working out the angles of the sectors on a pie graph using data. I know how to do it but sometimes I forget how to. I think something that helped me learn effectively was probably completing all the sheets for our follow up activity and then marking it helped to because if you look at the answer and if your answer is wrong looking at the correct answer makes you realize what you did wrong.

EOTC Week!!!

Last week was EOTC Week and it was really fun!!! On Monday we went to Nairnville and played field games, on Tuesday we went sailing, on Wednesday we went to this place called  camp Kaitoke and did 3 different activities there, on Thursday we went to Capital E and we made a video or we got to create a game, and on Friday we climbed up Mt Kau Kau. 
 
The most challenging day of the week was probably camp Kaitoke because we went orienteering and I still had a broken foot so it was really tiring hopping around trying tofnd things. I also found sailing really hard because there was a lot of new things we had to learn.
 
My proudest moment was kayaking with a broken foot because everyone was telling me I should do it but I was nervous to get my cast off but in the end I did it and it was actually really fun.
 
My favourite day was Thursday because I was someone who was getting filmed and it was really fun to try and learn the lines to say or watch someone mess up. My favourite part of the day was watching our video at the end.

Waikanae!

In the weekend I went to Waikanae with my cousin to visit some of her friends. When we got there we went down the road to the school. We went to the playground with a lot of monkey bars so that I could swing on them because I have a broken foot. After that we went in to their backyard which is down a large hill and there are lots of forests. We chose one to enter and went along a path with lots of obstacles like trees and plants. ( It was really hard on crutches. ) After a while of walking we turned back and went up to the house because it was lunch time, yay!

Week 6

In week six everyone in my year at school do this thing called EOTC week. It stands for Education Outside The Classroom. It's when we go out  to a different place each day of the week and do something fun. I'm looking forward to Thursday the most because we get to do this on TV thing. We're not actually going on TV but we get filmed and we each get a different part to do in the video. I'm not excited about going sailing because I won't be aloud on the boat because I've recently broke my foot. Even though I have a broken foot I think I'll still have a really good time.
